---- — Marshall earns

ECAC recognition

CENTERVILLE, Mass. — The awards keep on coming for Plattsburgh State’s Brittany Marshall.

One day after earning the first SUNYAC Women’s Basketball Player of the Week award of her career, the Malone product became the first Plattsburgh State student-athlete of 2012-13 to receive an ECAC Division III Upstate Player of the Week accolade.

The sophomore averaged 20 points per game in a pair of Plattsburgh victories last week. She poured in a game-high 21 points to lead the Cardinals in their 79-50 romp over Fredonia on Friday before turning in a 19-point performance in a 71-60 victory over Buffalo State — the Cardinals’ first win over the Bengals since 2008-09. On the weekend, Marshall connected on 50 percent of her field-goal attempts and handed out eight assists.

Through seven games this season, Marshall is averaging 13.7 points — good for the seventh-highest scoring average in the SUNYAC. The 5-foot-5 guard is tops in the conference in assists per game, averaging 4.7.

The Cardinals are off to a 5-2 start — their best since the 2001-02 season. They’re third in the SUNYAC standings with a 3-1 league record.
