Hornets, Vikings win in CVAC girls' hoops

PERU — The Plattsburgh High girls’ basketball team capitalized on Peru’s early foul trouble and a 12-point performance from Marle Curle in a 34-24 Champlain Valley Athletic Conference win Friday.

The Hornets were able to overcome a one-point halftime deficit and outscored the Indians by a 22-11 margin in the second half.

“I thought our team played well defensively, but (Curle) made everyone around her better,” Peru first-year head coach David Baroody said. “Ashley Marlow was able to come off the bench and total seven points, six of which were scored in the second half.”

Meghan Mazzella paced the Indians with nine points, while older sister Mary chipped in with seven.

Eighth grader Sam Spear pulled down 10 rebounds in the loss.
