Earley's 25 leads Wells over the Orange

WELLS — Jake Earley picked up where he left off from last season.

Earley connected for 25 points while pulling down 11 rebounds as Wells held off Indian Lake/Long Lake, 45-42, in the opening day of the Mountain & Valley Athletic Conference boys’ basketball season Tuesday.

The Indians (1-0) took a 12-11 lead after one, but fell behind 17-16 at the half. The Orange held a slim, one-point lead 29-28 heading into the fourth quarter.

Wells turned on the full-court pressure and forced Indian Lake/Long Lake into some turnovers to pull ahead to stay.

Ben Brenan chipped in with six points and 13 rebounds for the Indians. Caleb Hayed finished with six points and four assists.

Colin Farrell led the way for the Orange with 15 points. Matt Moore added eight points, while Henry Sandiford tallied seven.

SCHROON LAKE — Jesse Shaughnessy and Tanner Stone combined for 29 points to lead the Wildcats past the Warriors.

Shaughnessy led the charge with 16 points, while Stone finished with 13. Jeff Armstrong chipped in with 11 points and Bobby Rose, eight.

Schroon Lake (1-0) jumped out to a 14-3 after the first quarter and never looked back.

Nick Arnold paced Willsboro with 18 points.
