Area skaters contribute to Shamrocks’ success

MARION, Ma. — With the aid of two local players, the Vermont Shamrocks U16 girls hockey team captured the championship in the U16/19AA bracket of the Cape Cod Waves Cranberry Classic last weekend.

Cailee LaPorte of Chazy and Amy LoTemplio of Morrisonville both turned in strong performances on defense for the Shamrocks.

The Shamrocks defeated Connecticut Northern Lights 3-2, Barnstable 4-0, Cranston Reds 4-1 and Troy/Albany Ice Cats 2-0 in round-robin play.

In the semi-finals, the Shamrocks defeated Boston Advantage 5-0 with LoTemplio netting two goals.

In the final, the Shamrocks defeated their sister team, the U19 Shamrocks in a shoot-out after a 1-1 tie in regulation and a five-minute overtime.

LaPorte bagged the winning shoot-out goal.

The Shamrocks finished the fall season with a record of 19-7-2.

The team will resume play in March, after the high school season, with New England regional play.
