---- — Cardinals’ Foley tabbed as Goalie of the Week

CORTLAND — Sam Foley, of the No. 7 Plattsburgh State men’s hockey team, was named State University of New York Athletic Conference Goalie of the Week for Nov. 25.

During the Cardinals’ PrimeLink Great Northern Shootout game Saturday, Foley posted a 15-save shutout as his team beat St. Thomas 2-0. The junior goalie earned the victory in just his second career start for a Cardinal team that is currently 6-2. Plattsburgh State is on the road this weekend at Cortland and Oswego.

Stick, puck, public skating scheduled

PLATTSBURGH — Ameri-Can North Sports Center will hold stick ‘n’ puck Sunday, Dec. 2 from 4:15 p.m. to 5:45 p.m. Public skating is slated for Sunday, Dec. 2 from 3-4:15 p.m.

Peru Ski Club holding registration

PERU — Peru Ski Club will hold its last registration day Thursday at the Peru Town Hall. Registration will run from 6-7 p.m.

The club is open only to Peru students ages 8 to 18. Registration forms may be picked up at registration or downloaded from All skiers and snowboarders who wish to join must be at registration so that a photo can be taken for the lift pass. No hard-copy photos will be admitted.

Brady Frazier hoop tourney this week

ST. REGIS — The St. Regis Falls Saints and Saints Booster Club will host the Second-Annual Brady Frazier Memorial Basketball Tournament, Nov. 30 and Dec. 1 at St. Regis Falls Central School. There will be four games both days with a consolation and championship game to be played Saturday. Admission is $1 for students and $2 for adults.

5:30 p.m. – Heuvelton JV boys’ vs. Clifton Fine JV boys’

Area skaters contribute to Shamrocks’ success

MARION, Ma. — With the aid of two local players, the Vermont Shamrocks U16 girls hockey team captured the championship in the U16/19AA bracket of the Cape Cod Waves Cranberry Classic last weekend.

Cailee LaPorte of Chazy and Amy LoTemplio of Morrisonville both turned in strong performances on defense for the Shamrocks.

The Shamrocks defeated Connecticut Northern Lights 3-2, Barnstable 4-0, Cranston Reds 4-1 and Troy/Albany Ice Cats 2-0 in round-robin play.

In the semi-finals, the Shamrocks defeated Boston Advantage 5-0 with LoTemplio netting two goals.

In the final, the Shamrocks defeated their sister team, the U19 Shamrocks in a shoot-out after a 1-1 tie in regulation and a five-minute overtime.

LaPorte bagged the winning shoot-out goal.

The Shamrocks finished the fall season with a record of 19-7-2.

The team will resume play in March, after the high school season, with New England regional play.
