Hornets dominate swimming All-Stars

PLATTSBURGH — This years girls’ swimming all-stars were released and Plattsburgh led the way with seven swimmers. The Hornets dominated the season en route to a Section VII title and two relay teams have advanced to the state finals. AuSable Valley had three all-star selections, Peru had two and Moriah, one.

Alexis Kelley (Plattsburgh) — Kelley is part of a 200-yard medley relay and 400-yard freestyle relay team that will compete in the state finals. She was chosen as an all-star in this event as well as in two other events: 100 backstroke and 400 freestyle relay. The sophomore reached the state finals after claiming individual victories in the 100 butterfly and the 100 backstroke. She also won these same individual and team events in the sectional championships while setting a new pool record by two seconds in the 100 butterfly. Kelley has won more than 25 individual events so far.

Brooke Kelley (Plattsburgh) — Kelley joins her sister as a member of the 200-yard medley and 400-yard freestyle relay team that is competing at the state finals. Individually, she was selected as an all-star for the 100 breaststroke and the 200 individual medley. Kelley won these individual events at the sectional championships and was within one one-hundredth of reaching the state finals in the 100 breaststroke, but will instead serve as a second alternate for this event.

Kelsey Primard (Plattsburgh) — Primard is the next Hornet selected as an all-star. Like the Kelley sisters, Primard is part of the 200-yard medley team that is state finals bound. In addition to the 200-yard medley team selection, she was also named an all-star for the 200-yard freestyle relay. Primard won the 200 medley relay and the 400 freestyle relay in a meet against Peru.

Amanda Leonard (Plattsburgh) — Leonard was named an all-star in four categories: 200 medley relay, 50 freestyle, 100 freestyle and 400 freestyle relay. In the state finals, she will compete with teammates in the 200-yard medley team and the 400-yard freestyle team. In the sectional championships, Leonard won the individual 50-yard freestyle and 100-yard freestyle.

Brin Keyser (Plattsburgh) — Keyser was selected for four categories: 200 freestyle, 500 freestyle, 200 freestyle relay and 400 freestyle relay. She will join her Hornet teammates in the state finals for the 400-yard freestyle relay. During the sectionals, Keyser was part of the foursome that won the 200 medley relay, 200 freestyle relay and 400 freestyle relay. In a regular-season meet against Peru, Keyer won four events: 200 freestyle, 500 freestyle, 200 freestyle relay and 400 freestyle relay.

Toni Lavalley (Plattsburgh) — Lavalley was named an all-star as part of the 200 freestyle relay. Lavalley took home first-place finishes in the 50 freestyle, 100 freestyle and part of the 200 medley relay in a meet against Moriah. In the CVAC Relay Carnival, Lavalley helped a Hornet group win the 3x200 freestyle relay and the 400 freestyle relay. During the sectional championships, she placed third in the 100 freestyle and helped win the 200 freestyle relay.

Nicky Rogers (Plattsburgh) — Rogers was selected as part of the 200 freestyle relay. In the sectionals, Rogers led a Hornet group to the 200 freestyle relay top spot and finished fourth in the 200 individual freestyle.

Brooke Dever (Moriah) — Dever earned Moriah’s lone all-star selection in the 100 backstroke. In the sectionals, Dever finished third in the 100 backstroke. During the regular season, she won the 50 freestyle and 100 backstroke against AuSable Valley and won the 50 freestyle against Peru.

Emily McCormick (AuSable Valley) — McCormick is AuSable Valley’s first all-star selection with picks in three categories: 200 freestyle, 500 freestyle and 100 breaststroke. During the sectionals, McCormick won the 200 freestyle by six seconds and the 500 freestyle by 10 seconds. Against Moriah, she won the 200 medley relay, 200 freestyle and 100 breaststroke. McCormick also took top the spot in four events against Peru.

Alexis Provost (AuSable Valley) — Provost was named an all-star for the 50 freestyle. She finished second in this event during the sectionals, but made her mark in the 100 butterfly by setting a new pool record. Provost helped lead the Patriots to a win against Peru with wins in the 200 medley relay, 200 freestyle, 200 freestyle relay and 100 breaststroke. Against Moriah, Provost was first in the 200 freestyle relay, 100 freestyle and 200 medley relay.

Lydia Brown (AuSable Valley) — Brown was picked an all-star for the 100 butterfly. This season, Brown took home first in this event against Peru, Plattsburgh and Moriah. She also finished first in the 200 medley relay against Moriah. At the sectionals, Brown came in second in the 100 butterfly.

Kali Dorey (Peru) — Dorey gives Peru its first all-star selection by being picked for the 100 freestyle. Against Moriah, Dorey won the 200 medley relay twice and the 400 freestyle relay.

Ellie Silverman (Peru) — Silverman picked up Peru’s other all-star selection with the 200 individual medley. She began this season with wins in the 200 individual medley and the 100 freestyle. Silverman then went on to win the 100 butterfly against Moriah and paced the Indians to a victory in 3x100 backstroke relay during the CVAC Relay Carnival. Against Moriah, Silverman won the 200 medley relay, 200 individual medley and the 400 freestyle relay.
