SARANAC — The Peabody’s Padres and Meron’s Expos, currently sporting two of the top three records in the Champlain Valley Baseball League, split their doubleheader on Sunday.
The Padres (6-2) recorded a 3-2 win in the first game before the Expos (7-3) took the second by a 5-2 score.
Matt Rivers struck out seven, walked one and allowed six hits to pick up the victory for the Padres in the opening game. Losing pitcher Billy Davis fanned five, walked four and surrendered five hits.
Shane Perrotte paced the Padres’ offense with two hits, while Davis accounted for three hits, including a triple, for the Expos.
Peabody’s took a 3-1 lead with two runs in the bottom of the fifth inning on a bases-loaded walk to Mark Eggleston and a sacrifice fly from Brady Burleigh.
In the second game, Mike Bergman limited the Padres to three hits in going the distance for the win and Frank Brogna took the loss.
Chris Roenbeck, Mike Bordeau and Cliff Conners rapped out two hits each for the Expos, with Bordeau getting a two-run double. Meron’s finished with 12 hits in all.
Meron’s scored two runs in the third and then added three more in the fifth for a 5-0 lead.
Three players had a single each for the Padres.

LYON MOUNTAIN — Scott Baker rapped out three hits and drove in four runs in the opener to power the Lyon Mountain Miners over the Adams Glass Dodgers.
Winning pitcher David Waldron, who went the distance, chipped in with a single and double for the Miners, who held a 2-1 lead before scoring two in the fifth and two in the sixth.
