SARANAC LAKE — Saranac tied the game with a run in the seventh inning and won it with a run in the eighth Saturday in a 7-6 victory over Saranac Lake in Champlain Valley Athletic Conference baseball.
The Chiefs held a 5-2 lead going into the bottom of the fifth when the Red Storm scored two runs to get to within a run. Saranac Lake then tallied two more in the sixth to grab the lead, at 6-5.
In the seventh, Caleb Keysor walked, stole second and scored the tying run when Jacob Lilledahl’s outfield fly ball was misplayed.
Then, in the eighth with two out, Mason Utzler walked, Morgan Earp singled, Josh Emerson reached on an infield single and Keysor got aboard on an infield error, with the go-ahead run crossing the plate.
In the bottom of the eighth, a couple of errors put the tying run on third base, with nobody out. Relief pitcher Keysor, however, made a nice play on a suicide-squeeze bunt, catching the ball in the air, and turned it into a double play.
Keysor, who took over for starter Nick Mather in the seventh inning, was the winning pitcher, while Nicholas McCabe, who was in relief of Trent Fitzgerald in the eighth, took the loss.
Lilledahl led the Chiefs with three hits. Logan Wood and Trent Fitzgerald rapped out two hits each for the Red Storm.
