AuSable Forks Fastpitch begins today

AUSABLE FORKS — The AuSable Forks Fastpitch Softball League will kick off its season today with a doubleheader beginning at 12:30 p.m. The league will feature six teams.

The season-opening game will feature Gordon Oil versus defending champion Millers Fuel/Loremans. Gordon Oil will be led on the mound by Derrick Hackett. The lineup will include longtime league players Tom Mousseau, Kevin McCallister, Jon Gordon and David Gordon. Handling the pitching duties this season for Millers Fuel/Loremans will be Mike Furnia and Ryan Evens. Their lineup will feature, among others, Thom Loreman Jr., Jordan Bezio and TJ Burl.

The second will pit Perkins Trucking against American Legion Post 504. Throwing for Perkins Trucking will be standout Andrew Bombard. Bolstering the truckers’ lineup will be veterans Matt Stanley, Chris Lamountain, Josh Haywood and John Mussen.

For Post 504, Kellen Nolan and 1997 Au Sable Forks Fastpitch Tournament MVP Drew Plumadore will split the pitching duties. Power-hitting catcher Kyle Nolan highlights the lineup that also includes speedsters Kodi Gordon, Josh Douglass and Ross McCallister.

Fish and Game Clubs to meet May 20

PLATTSBURGH — There will be a meeting of the Clinton County Federation of Fish and Game Clubs at 7 p.m. May 20 at the Conservation Building on the Clinton County Fairgrounds.

The guest speaker will be Jonathon Figroh, a fish biologist. The public is welcome to attend and bring questions. Contact Larry Velie at 643-8991 for more information.

Seton Catholic girls win 1,600 relay

PLATTSBURGH — Ashley Carpenter, Ashley Leta, Phoebe Christopher and Melissa Whyman were on Seton Catholic’s winning 1,600-meter relay team in a Champlain Valley Athletic Conference track meet against Plattsburgh High Thursday. The names were originally not reported to the Press-Republican.

Six Cardinals honored

PLATTSBURGH — Six student-athletes received major awards at the annual Plattsburgh State Athletics Senior Recognition and Awards Ceremony.
