Plattsburgh High pulls away early, defeats Patriots

PLATTSBURGH — Plattsburgh High School didn’t wait long to jump on AuSable Valley in Champlain Valley Athletic Conference baseball Thursday.

The Hornets pushed across four runs in the first inning and added eight more in the second on the way to a 13-3 victory.

Shawn Courson had a triple, a single and an RBI for Plattsburgh. Jack Tolosky added a single and a triple, Andrew Bechard had two singles and an RBI and Garrett Manchester chipped in three RBI. Dan Hartman drove in two runs.

Gerrit Rietsema went the first five innings for the pitching win as he allowed three hits, no runs, did not walk anyone and struck out six.

Mike McDonald had a triple for the Patriots, and Nick McDonald was the losing pitcher.

PERU — Winning pitcher Blake Altizer and Mitchell Cunningham each accounted for three hits, including a triple and double, and two RBI to help lead the Indians past the Bobcats.

Luke Carpenter added a triple, single and two RBI for Peru, while Conor Casey finished with two singles and two RBI. The Indians jumped out to a 6-0 lead after two innings.

Altizer allowed three hits and struck out 12 in going the distance for the win.

“Blake did a good job settling down after giving up two runs in the third inning,” Peru coach Brian Marino said. “He didn’t allow any hits and walked one over the last four innings.

“Our four seniors — Mitchell Cunningham, Conor Casey, Josh Robinson and Ian Spear — all contributed to the win on Senior Day.”

Brandon Honan’s triple and Ethan King’s double were among the three hits for Northern Adirondack. Alden Kerr took the pitching loss.
