NORTH CREEK — Johnsburg’s Ty Berg was outstanding on the mound Monday afternoon.
Berg struck out five and tossed a complete-game two-hitter as the Jaguars recorded a 5-1 victory over Chazy in Mountain and Valley Athletic Conference baseball.
The oddity was that two Chazy pitchers — starter Dylan Doran and reliever Hayden Guay — combined on a no-hitter in the loss.
Berg threw strikes and went to a three-ball count on only one Chazy hitter. His teammates played well defensively. The first Eagle batter of the game reached on an error and later scored, and that would be the only mistake Johnsburg made.
Josh Barriere’s infield single and Tyler Hicks’ double were the lone Chazy hits.
“We had a strong defensive outing,” Johnsburg coach Ryan Carpenter said. “We were also able to take advantage of some early errors and walks by Chazy.”
The Jaguars scored three unearned runs in the first inning on a walk, three Chazy errors and two wild pitches. Doran struck out four batters in the inning.
Doran then ran into control trouble in the second and walked four and hit one, allowing two more runs, before Guay took over and got the final out.
Guay then restored order by going the next four innings and allowing just one base runner. But the Eagles’ offense couldn’t get untracked against Berg.
