Saranac Lake wins battle of unbeatens in CVAC golf

SARANAC LAKE — The battle of unbeaten teams in Champlain Valley Athletic Conference golf went to Saranac Lake Monday afternoon.

Ethan Sawyer took medalist honors with a 37 in the No. 1 match as the host Red Storm recorded a 4½-1½ victory over Peru.

Sawyer defeated Jordan Guay, 37-40.

All six Saranac Lake golfers shot 43 or better, with the Red Storm also getting victories from Austin Ecret (40), Danny Strack (41) and Tanner Courcelle (43).

The Red Storm’s Carley Sawyer halved her match with Gavin Plimpton, with both golfers carding 42s.

Matt Nugent picked up the lone win for the Indians when he posted a close 40-41 victory over Dustin Fischer in the No. 2 match.

ROUSES POINT — Nate Devins was medalist on the day at the North Country Golf Club with a 40, leading the Patriots past the Cougars.

Lucas Finnegan (43), Riley Taylor (46) and Kyle Hart (47) also won their matches for AuSable Valley, while the Patriots’ Ian Rennie halved with Cole Pinsonneault.

Chris Kokes, who lost by one stroke to Finnegan, was low man for Northeastern Clinton with a 44. Anthony Barcomb won the lone match for the Cougars.

PLATTSBURGH — Kiefer Casler’s medalist round of 40 helped give the Blue Bombers their victory over the Chiefs at The Barracks Golf Course.

All six Lake Placid golfers shot 46 or better. Miles Lussi (43), Ryan Kane (41), Pat Kane (46) and Lucas Strack (43) also won their matches for the Blue Bombers.
