SCHENECTADY — The Clinton Community College baseball team closed out its season with two competitive games on Thursday.
The Cougars, however, ran out of gas in both contests while dropping a 6-1 and 8-3 twinbill at Schenectady County Community College.
“These were two well-played games today,” Clinton coach Tom Neale said. “We were competitive in a lot of games this season.”
In the opener, the Royals held a 1-0 lead through four innings before scoring two runs in the fifth and three in the sixth.
Joe DeZalia started on the mound and took the loss.
“Joe pitched real well for five innings and gave us a good chance,” Neale said. “He then ran out of gas in the sixth inning.”
Clinton had three hits in the game — doubles by Robert Mejia and Kristian Sherman and a single by Kaleb Snide.
In the second game, the hosts broke a 3-all tie with three runs in the fifth and added two more in the sixth.
Murray Ruggiero pitched into the fifth and took the setback.
“We played good defense again, and it was a 3-all game after four innings,” Neale said. “And then it was the same old thing — we ran out of gas.”
The Cougars rapped out nine hits in Game 2, with Marcus Lefebvre, Adam Goldfarb and Sherman getting two apiece.
