Wood sets new Section VII shot put record

PERU — Meghann Wood set a Section VII record in the shot put during Saranac’s 105-21 victory over Peru in Champlain Valley Athletic Conference girls’ track and field Tuesday.

Wood achieved a distance of 38 feet, 10 inches, surpassing the previous record of 38-5 held by Ticonderoga’s Sherry Ott.

The Chiefs took first in every event Tuesday, led by Janyll Barber’s three victories. Barber won the 100 dash in 13.3 seconds, the 200 in 27.4 seconds and the triple jump with a distance of 32-8.

Lexi Blockson, Ellen Thew and Jamie Favreau all claimed two victories.

EKMW’s Halie Snyder broke a record in Tuesday’s victory over AuSable Valley that stood since 1984.

Snyder ran the 100-meter dash in a time of 11.9 seconds, which broke the record of Peru’s Michelle Provost that was set in 1984. Provost’s time was 12.2 seconds.

Snyder’s victory also came with a strong headwind.
