LAKE PLACID — Cheyenne Blair belted a grand slam in the third inning to spark the Lake Placid softball team to an 8-2 win over Plattsburgh High in the championship game of the Lake Placid Tournament Saturday.
Both teams won an earlier game Saturday to grab a spot in the final.
Lake Placid took a 1-0 lead in the first inning and pulled away with a six-run third inning. The Hornets got on the board in the top of the fifth.
Carissa Kennedy went the distance for the win, while Liz Bimonte helped power the Lake Placid offense with three singles. Adele Jesmer added a triple.
Lauren Stanley led Plattsburgh with two hits.

Summer Gillespie’s RBI single in the fifth inning gave the Chiefs the lead for keeps.
Saranac faced a two-run deficit after two, but Sydney Adolfo’s two-RBI single in the fifth tied the game at 2-all. The Chiefs registered three hits in the frame.
Gillespie and Adolfo each finished with multiple hits.
Tori Trim recorded the win on the mound in a complete-game performance, tossing 12 strikeouts on one walk.
Despite a combined 14 hits, neither team was able to record an extra-base hit.

The Chiefs led Saturday’s first game until the top of the seventh, when the Blue Bombers strung together a walk and six hits and turned them into seven runs.
Kennedy doubled and singled, while Hanna Potter hit a triple and a single. Bimonte, Blair and Payton Barney also had two hits. Kennedy walked three and struck out three while earning the win in the pitching circle.
