---- — SOUTH PLATTSBURGH – Airborne Park Speedway lights the fuse on the biggest month of its 60th anniversary season Saturday when Pepsi presents the North Country’s largest and longest aerial fireworks event.

The night, presented by High Peaks Dental, Della Auto and Jeffords Steel, includes a five-division race card headlined by the Ernie’s Tools DIRTcar Modifieds.

“Fireworks Only” tickets are available after 8:30 p.m. for $10 per carload. Admission to the races and the fireworks is $15 for adults, while kids 12 and under free.

“We’ve planned a grand finale we’re calling “Goliath” that might turn heads from Montreal to Mount Washington,” pyrotechnics director Dr. Joe Clauss said. “Actually, there will be the equivalent of four finales before we’re done.

“In the past, we’ve put the hammer down and gone at full speed from start to finish, but we’ve learned to pace the show so that people can catch their breath. I have a veteran crew of family and friends that’s really looking forward to Saturday. Our shipment from China has arrived. We’ve totally redesigned the event and we’ve made a new launching apparatus to make “Goliath” unforgettable.”

Pepsi Fireworks Night ushers in a busy month at the speedway, which culminates with the American-Canadian Tour (ACT) International 500 Saturday and Sunday July 20 and 21.

The $25,000-to-win International 500 has Late Model entries from all over the Northeast United States and Eastern Canada and a purse worth over $140,000. Airborne’s DIRTcar Modifieds will compete in 50-lap features both days.

Airborne hosts a USA/Canada Limited Late Model 60-lap Challenge July 6 with all divisions and the Classic Cruisers Car Show.

Spectator races — one-on-one elimination drags for street legal cars and trucks are set for Saturday, July 13 as a part of a four-division race card.

Airborne is located on Broderick Road in South Plattsburgh, just off Route 22 one mile south of I-87 exit 36.
