Piller, Murray atop weekly bicycle time trials

POINT AU ROCHE — Jack Piller turned the fast time in the June 12 bicycle time trials along Lakeshore Road in Point Au Roche, posting a 22:47 in the 10-mile event.

Piller was followed by Scott Woodward (22:54) and Bruce Gugliotta 24:59.

Lynne Murray was the first female overall, registering a time of 26:09 followed by Sandy Rasco (29:29).

The time trials take place Wednesday nights at the Point Au Roche Firehouse on Lakeshore Road. The event is free and open to all novice and experienced riders, road bikes and mountain bikes.

Helmets are mandatory and all riders must obey the rules of the road.

Sign up starts around 5:30 p.m. with the first rider going out at 6 p.m.

Riders interested in the 25-mile event should be prepared to start between 5:30 p.m. and 5:45 p.m.

Barracks members only 10-4-4 Golf Tournament

PLATTSBURGH — The Barracks will hold a members only 10-4-4 Tournament June 23 at 10 a.m.

The format is two-man, women or mixed teams with the total handicap divided by three. On the par 3s, each player will play his or her own ball and both scores will count.

The par 4s will be played as a scramble and the par 5s will be alternate shot.

Entry fee is $50 per team and includes skins.

“Race 4 Care” 5K in Scaroon Manor

SCHROON LAKE — “Race 4 Care” to benefit High Peaks Hospice and Palliative Care will take place July 20 in Scaroon Manor, 8728 US Rte. 9, Pottersville on Schroon Lake. Race day registration and sign-up begins at Scaroon Manor at 8 a.m. and the race will start at 9 a.m.

Pre-registration fee is $20 or $25 on race day.

This is a timed 5K race for the serious runner, but all runners and walkers are welcome.

Organizers hope participants pre-register by July 13.

First 30 to register get a free “Race 4 Care” t-shirt. Shirts are handed out on the day of the race.

Bud Light Platinum Shootout Results

PLATTSBURGH — After the first day of the tournament, day two proved to be the most challenging.

Between tough pins and some rain, the course played like it was the Fall Classic.


Day Two winners: 1, Flynn/Labounty, 77.7, 2, JR/Monaham 79.3, 3, Welch/Welch 80.3.

Skins: 1, Lorey/Brown, hole six, 2, Flynn/Labounty, hole seven, 3, JR/Monahan, hole 15.

Date Set for 9th Annual Mark Rabin Golf Tournament

PLATTSBURGH —The 9th Annual Mark Rabin Memorial Golf Tournament, organized by the SUNY Plattsburgh School of Business and Economics will be held July 24 at the Westport Country Club.

The tournament features a four-person scramble, with a maximum of 144 players, and it is open to the public.

School of Business and Economics students and graduates are especially invited to play in the event. All proceeds from the tournament will go to the Plattsburgh College Foundation and the Mark Rabin Memorial Scholarship in Marketing, which was established with the proceeds from the previous eight tournaments.

The registration fee is still $49.99, which includes 18 holes of golf, golf cart, unusual hats and prizes for everyone, and a BBQ three-course dinner.

There will also be a $5,000 hole-in-one prize as well as the famous 35-foot Sledgehammer Putting Contest, both sponsored by Shumway Insurance Agency.

Mulligan tickets and 50/50 raffle tickets will also be available for sale.

Food will be available for purchase on the golf course.

The putting contest will begin at 10 a.m., the shotgun tournament will begin at 12:30 p.m. and dinner and awards will begin at 6:15 p.m.

All tee box sponsors and prize donors will be listed in the tournament program and on the website, which will be updated regularly.

Special prizes will be given to the top female and male for longest drive, shortest drive, closest to the pin, longest putt and Rookie of the Year.

Crab Island Golf Tournament July 20

PLATTSBURGH — The 9th Annual Crab Island Golf Tournament will be held July 20 at the Barracks Golf Course.

All entries must be paid in full by June 20. There is a waiting list.

Peru Big Blue Hoop Camp accepting walk-in registration

PERU — The Peru Big Blue Hoop Camp will be held at Peru Central School during the week of June 24 from 9 a.m. to 3 p.m.

Walk-in registration is welcome.

The cost of the camp is $110 for walk-in registration and is open to boys’ and girls’ entering grades 3-10 from any school district.

Walk-in registration begins at 8:15 a.m. June 24 in the Peru High School lobby.

All campers receive a customized t-shirt, a basketball, a player evaluation and coaching from current and former college and high school coaches and players.

Players of all ability levels are welcome.

Participants are encouraged to bring their own lunch Monday through Thursday.
