---- — PLATTSBURGH – Senior attacker Joe Kramer pumped in five goals and reigning SUNYAC Men’s Lacrosse Player of the Week Brendan Damm racked up another five points on the day as the Plattsburgh State lacrosse team blasted Morrisville State, 17-1, at the Field House Lacrosse Complex on Wednesday.
With the victory, the Cardinals improved to 5-0 while keeping the Mustangs firmly entrenched in the loss column at 0-3. The win was the largest margin of victory for the Cardinals at their home field since March 13, 2008, when they roughed up Castleton State by a score of 24-2.
Maintaining a nearly unrelenting assault on Morrisville, the Cardinals amassed some 49 shots – 34 of which were on target — during the one-sided affair while limiting the visitors to just 13 shot attempts through the 60-minute tilt.
Kramer went to work early and often, netting the first Plattsburgh marker with 13:27 to go in the first quarter thanks to a nifty feed from junior defender Charlie Dullea. Less than three minutes later, Kramer netted what would prove to be the eventual game-winner, firing a hot shot past Morrisville netminder Tyler Catalfano for his second of the day.
Nick Travers bounced in another Plattsurgh marker before Damm hit pay dirt for the first time with an unassisted marker that made things 4-0 Cardinals with 5:59 to go in the opening frame. Ryan Hastings added his fourth goal of the season before the first quarter horn sounded.
Starting the second quarter with a bang, senior Brett McClelland pushed the Plattsburgh lead to 7-0 with a pair of goals 12 seconds apart in the opening minute of the stanza. After his scoring tally in the first, Damm registered two assists on the next pair of Plattsburgh markers by James Higgins and Kramer that pushed the Cardinals’ lead to 9-0 when the halftime horn blared.
After Damm blasted in his second goal of the game in the third quarter, the Cardinals fired in seven more in the final frame. Andrew Tralongo fired a pair of pin-point passes to Kramer who scored his fourth and fifth goals of the game in a 30 second span in the opening minute of the fourth quarter.
Higgins added his second of the day thanks to a crisp pass from Tom Monahan before Damm found Travers who struck for his second goal of the game on Plattsburgh’s only man-up tally of the contest.
Brendan Cefalu, John Olsen and Andrew Duque each added a goal to round out the Plattsburgh scoring before Morrisville’s Louie Geswaldo spoiled the shutout bid with the Mustangs’ sole goal with 1:01 to go in the game.
Defending SUNYAC Men’s Lacrosse Goalie of the Week Gordie Gehring kept his record untarnished, playing 49:50 and making four saves en route to a 5-0 mark. Gehring eventually gave way to Chris Guzzetta, Eric Howard and Joe Mantovani who each took over between the pipes for a time in the fourth quarter.
Catalfano gave up all 17 Plattsburgh State goals and made 17 saves.
Mike Lind secured a game-high six ground balls for the Cardinals while McClelland and Nick Parrella scooped up five each. The Cardinals finished 1-for-7 on the man advantage while the Mustangs were 0-of-7.
