SARANAC — In Wednesday’s edition of the Press-Republican, the high jumper in the photo on B1 was misidentified as Ben Strack.

The athlete in the photo was Ryan Kneussle, who captured first place in both the long and triple jumps in helping the Chiefs defeat Peru.

Extra sign-up sessions being held

AUSABLE FORKS — The Jay/Black Brook Youth Commission is holding an extra sign-up session Saturday, April 27 from 10 a.m.-noon at Stewart’s in AuSable Forks.

Children ages 4-16 from the towns of Wilmington, Jay, and Black Brook are eligible to play. All players must present a birth certificate for age verification in order to play. Contact Gary Whisher at, 647-8224 or 572-4983, if you have any questions or are unable to attend.

Saranac golf season outlook

SARANAC — Saranac golf coach John Roth believes his team’s strengths will be their experience in the top four spots, which he thinks will be competitive with most teams.

Those four top spots will be filled by returners Nick Lees, Austin LaDieu, Jarett Wright and Max Staley.

His final two spots he said are “up for grabs.” The final two spots will be filled with players that have limited or non-competitive golf experience. The Chiefs are looking to improve from their 5-5 record last season.

PLATTSBURGH — Members of the Clinton County Sheriff’s Office will be conducting a certified boater’s safety course on the following dates: June 1, June 8, June 15, June 22 and July 13.

The course will occur at the Clinton County Sheriff’s Office from 8:30 a.m. to 4:30 p.m.

Skating Club offers Spring Ice Skating Lessons

PLATTSBURGH — The Skating Club of the Adirondacks will offer Spring Ice Skating Lessons beginning April 29 at the Ameri-Can North rink on Sharon Avenue.

Lessons are available for all ages and all levels are scheduled twice a week, on Monday’s from 6 to 7 p.m. and Saturday mornings from 8:30 a.m. to 9:30 a.m.

Final Rifle League standings

PLATTSBURGH — The Plattsburgh Rod & Gun and its Rough Riders Rifle Team grabbed second place this season in the Vermont Winter Postal League.

Whitehall led the league the entire season and took first place among the 13 teams participating,

The Rough Riders were led by Peter Visconti with a 395.20 average. Visconti’s average was tops among competitors firing at least 30 percent of the matches.

Visconti, who fired in all 10 matches, outshot Jason Pratt of Whitehall by just 0.10 of a point across the season.

Frank Richards of Mooers was the team’s second best shooter with a 392.8 average, eighth best in the league.

The top junior shooter in the league was Andrew Visconti with a 385 average.

Jubert throws 300 game

CORNING — Connor Jubert rolled a perfect 300 game with a 790 series at the 64th annual New York State American Legion Bowling Tournament in Corning April 21.

“Strides for James” Fun Run to set for May 11

PLATTSBURGH — Strides for James is a 5K/10K, one-mile walk and children’s fun run.

The race will be held May 11 starting at 9 a.m. at Point Au Roche State Park.

All proceeds will go toward the James Wilson Memorial Scholarship Fund at Clinton Community College.

Race t-shirt included in registration fee. Additional t-shirts can be purchased at $10 per shirt.

CVPH 5K Run/Walk slated for May 18

PLATTSBURGH — Registration forms for the CVPH 5K Run/Walk planned for May 18 beginning at 9 a.m. is available at cvph.org in the Upcoming Events section or at the Wellness Center at PARC.

Registration is $15 per person before May 11 and $20 after. The first 200 to register receives a free gift.
