Wally Vanderhoff pitches the first no-hitter in the CVL in two years as Peru defeats AuSable Valley 11-0. Dave Krick saves the gem with a running grab of Rick Siddon’s 350-foot drive.

West Chazy’s Bill Fountain, 23, advances to the Northeast Regional Boxing Championships in Lowell, Mass., with 2 first-round technical knockouts at the Adirondack AAU championships in Troy.

50 YEARS AGO (1963)

Larry Storrs delivers the game-winning hit in Plattsburgh State’s 6-5 victory over Castleton State. Dave Bedell, pitching in relief of freshman Don Deshaies, is credited with the victory. Later in the week, Gary Butler tosses a 2-hitter as Plattsburgh State trounces Albany State, 9-1.

Two Meconis figure in a pair of aces on the same day at Indole Golf Course. Billy Meconi is caddy for Armond Pilon when he scores a hole-in-one and an hour later, Louis Meconi, Bill’s dad, sinks his tee shot on the third hole.

Don Lavarnway, new president of the Clinton County Trotting Horse Owners Association, looks to expand the local season to six weekly races leading up to the fair.

Al McGee, 18, and a student at Peru, bowls a 708 series — the first 700 of the season in the $1,000 Classic League.

60 YEARS AGO (1953)

The Plattsburgh Golf Club, under president Carl Stohn, completes plans for the season. Other club officials include: Dr. and Mrs. Edward Siegel, Harold Jones, Dr. George Bock, Edward Mason, V.I. Jerry, H.D. Grant, Mrs. A.A. Gioiosa and F.E. Arpin.

Roger Douglas, of Silver Lake, nets a 6-pound, 8-ounce brown trout while fishing the Saranac River near the bridge in front of the Clayburg Inn.
