MIDDLEBURY, Vt. — Senior Kristie Pageau put her name in the Plattsburgh State record books by breaking a five-year-old school record with a 4,117 point performance in the heptathlon at the Cortland Classic while Amanda Gadway put on a show of her own in the field events at the Middlebury Invitational.
Gadway’s best performance came in the discus throw where the sophomore broke the Plattsburgh State record with a first-place ECAC-qualifying throw of 42.43 meters. Out of the 30 team points scored by the Cardinals in Middlebury, 15 came from Gadway as she took the individual crown in the hammer throw (43.87 meters) and the shot put (10.67 meters). Plattsburgh State finished third out of four teams at the event.
Over in Cortland, Pageau’s best performance in the heptathlon came in the 800-meter dash as she outpaced the 11 other members of the field with a time of 2:35.77. The senior put forth a second-place finish in the javelin throw portion with a toss of 29.69 meters. She finished in third place out of 14 competitors.
DEPO TAKES FIRST IN DECATHLON
Senior Ben Depo turned in a first-place performance in the decathlon at the Cortland Classic and a trio of Cardinals earned first-place finishes at the Middlebury Invitational for the Plattsburgh State men’s outdoor track and field team this weekend.
Depo excelled in the field portion of the decathlon, posting first-place finishes in the shot put (11.99 meters), and the discus throw (35.47 meters). In the track events, he earned runner-up finishes in the 400-meter dash (52.89 seconds) and the 110-meter hurdles (16.64 seconds).
Alex Choi put forth a seventh-place finish to join Depo in the top-ten with 5,024 points. Senior Brian Drollette crossed the line in fifth place in the 100-meter dash with a time of 11.79 seconds to round out the Plattsburgh State field in Cortland.
