PHS swimmers lead way at states

ITHACA — Section VII competed at this past weekend’s NYSPHSAA girls’ swimming championships and the Plattsburgh High School 400-yard freestyle relay had the best showing of any of the locals.

The Hornets’ team of Alexis Kelley, Brooke Kelley, Kelly Davey and Toni Lavalley made it to the finals and was able to finish 28th in the state, dropping their time by over 19 seconds in the finals with a 3:55.92.

In the 400 freestyle relay preliminaries, Corinne Wells, Kelsey Primard, Davey and Lavalley turned in a 4:13.83 for 29th.

Plattsburgh High’s team of Lavalley, Brooke Kelley, Amanda Leonard and Alexis Kelley placed 38th in the 200 freestyle in 1:47.78.

In addition for the Hornets, Brooke Kelley finished 45th in the 200 I.M. in 2:13.52, Leonard 43rd in the 50 freestyle in 27.10, Alexis Kelley 55th in the 100 butterfly in 1:06.98, Leonard 47th in the 100 freestyle in 1:00.39, Alexis Kelley 46th in the 500 freestyle in 5:39.78, Davey 48th in the 100 backstroke in 1:09.22, and Brooke Kelley 35th in the 100 breaststroke in 1:10.58.

The AuSable Valley 200 medley relay team of Toni Cross, Emily McCormick, Lydia Brown and Haley Sprague finished 36th in 2:12.80. McCormick also competed in the 200 freestyle and placed 50th in 2:13.52.
