---- — Peru sports clearance dates set

PERU — Peru JV and varsity football, JV and varsity soccer, cross country, gymnastics, volleyball, cheerleading and swimming will start Aug. 19. All modified sports will start Aug. 26.

Athletes must report to the High School Nurse’s Office for sports clearance. Sports clearances will be offered from 7 to 11:15 a.m. and noon to 2:30 p.m. on Aug. 14, 15, 16, 19, 22 and 26 as well as from 7 to 11 am. on Aug. 27. New student physicals will be offered from 7:30 to 9 a.m. Aug. 20.

After 11 a.m. Aug. 27, the nurses will not be available for clearances until the first day of school.

Seton Catholic in need of boys’ soccer coach

PLATTSBURGH — Seton Catholic Central School is in need of a boys’ modified soccer coach for the upcoming season. First aid and CPR are required. If interested, e-mail mforbes@setoncatholic.net.

Bluff Point juniors hold member/guest tourney

PLATTSBURGH — The Bluff Point junior golf program held its annual member/guest tournament on Tuesday, July 23. The two-person scramble was won by Gavin Plimpton and his father, Tom. Second place went to Jordan Guay and his grandfather, and third to Matt Svarplaitis and his guest, Alex Follmer.

A barbecue was enjoyed by all following the event. The next tournament for the six-week program is the club championships next week. Champions will be crowned in three age categories: 12-and-under; 13 and 14; and 15-and-over.

AC North offering Non-Contact Hockey

PLATTSBURGH — The Ameri-Can North Sports Center is offering Non-Contact Hockey for area high school/bantam players. The one-hour sessions will be on the following Sundays; Aug. 4, 18 and 25 and Sept. 1, 8, 15, 22, 29. All sessions are from 7 to 8 p.m. and are $10 per player. Piller, Duprey win bicycle time trials

POINT AU ROCHE — Jack Piller turned in the fastest time of the night on July 24 with a 22:26 to win the 10-mile event at the weekly bicycle time trials. Piller was followed by Kevin Duniho is 22:41 and Erik Bollt in 23:05. Mary Duprey was the fastest female in 25:27, followed by Lynn Murray in 26:11 and Susanna Piller in 27:01.

The time trials are held every Wednesday night at the Point au Roche Firehouse on the Lakeshore Road. The event is free and open to all novice and experienced riders, road bikes or mountain bikes. Helmets are mandatory and all riders must obey the rules of the road. Sign-ups start at 5:30 p.m., with the first rider going out at 6 p.m. There are two courses for riders to choose from, five or 10 miles.

ADK 80K endurance races Labor Day weekend

LAKE PLACID — Trail runners and off-road cyclists are invited to participate in the inaugural ADK 80K, an endurance racing event Aug. 31 and Sept. 1.

The races cover 80 kilometers in a figure eight design and feature $8,000 in prizes in eight categories with an 8 a.m. start time. The weekend consists of two separate events, both taking place on the Mount Van Hoevenberg trail system used. The ADK 80K begins with a trail running race on Saturday, followed by Sunday’s mountain bike race with a cyclocross division.

Registration is $80 per person and is now open at highpeakscyclery.com. Onsite registration will be available at 6 a.m. both days of the event.

Davis, Garcia, Dergham, Durham win Michelob Classic

PLATTSBURGH — Ed Davis carded a 70 to win the George Bock Flight and overall championship in the Michelob Golf Classic held at Bluff Point Golf Resort. Cary Garcia captured the Si Bedard Flight with a 77, Nadim Dergham the Bill Frandino Flight with an 83 and Dave Durham the Buggs Duquette Flight with an 85.

Winning first and second low net honors were Bart VanLeuvan and Eric LaBounty tied at 71 in the Bock Flight, J.R. Durham, Mike Flynn, Mike Derrigo, Don Bainbridge and Tom Neligan with 71s in the Bedard Flight, Casey Flynn with a 71 and Bobby Dergham with a 72 in the Frandino Flight, and Ed Rostak a 71 and Nate Fillion a 72 in the Duquette Flight.

Closest to the pin winners were Rusty Bigelow on the ninth hole and Chad Welch on the 13th.

NAB Bulldogs win youth baseball tourney

ALTONA — The NAB Bulldogs won the fifth-annual Burnell Memorial Baseball Tournament. The Bulldogs were led by tournament Most Valuable Player Zack Rainville and the strong pitching of Jared Duquette.

Chazy Youth Soccer to hold fall sign-ups

CHAZY — Fall registration for Chazy Youth Soccer will be held from 6 p.m. to 7:30 p.m. on Monday, July 29 at the Chazy Town Hall for those who have not yet registered. These sign-ups will be for all levels: mini-mites, ages three to five; mites, ages six to eight; peewees, ages nine to 11; and bantam, ages 12 and 13.

For new players, a copy of the child’s birth certificate is needed for proof of age. Forms can also be picked up/dropped off at the Chazy Town Hall by July 31. Coaching volunteers are needed at most levels.
