PLATTSBURGH — Four pitchers combined on a three-hitter Friday as the Clinton County Senior Mariners blanked the Fourth Ward Cardinals, 6-0, in an exhibition game at South Acres Field.
It was the final tune-up against live competition for the Mariners (21-8, 23-8), who will take part in the New York State American Legion Tournament starting on Wednesday in Utica.
Brandon Rabideau, winning pitcher Robby Knowles and Conor Casey each tossed two shutout innings and Ryan Meyer pitched the seventh.
Kasey Favreau went 2-for-2, including two RBI, for the Mariners, while Marcus Lefebvre was 2-for-2, with a double.
Knowles and Logan Recor added two singles apiece, while Jack Tolosky, Meyer and Mitchell Cunningham each singled in an 11-hit attack. Chris Roenbeck and Jeremy Barber each drove in a run with sacrifice flies.
Joe Tolosky and losing pitcher Eric Rock doubled for the Cardinals and Craig Bujold singled.
“I want to thank the Cardinals and my son, Joe, for putting a team together to play us,” Mariners coach Matt Tolosky said. “There is some idle time between the Districts and the state tournament and it was nice to get an exhibition game to keep us playing.
“It helped us with preparation. We were able to give our pitchers a chance to get some work in and also gave our hitters some at bats.”
