CLINTONVILLE — Phil Lynch won the 5K race at the third of six AuSable Valley Fun Runs held July 22. The series will continue on Mondays through Aug. 12. Registration at 5:30 p.m., and the first race is at 6 p.m. All are welcome. Visit facebook.com/AuSableValleyFunRunWalk for more.

North Country Cancer Fund tourney Aug. 17

ROUSES POINT — The North Country Cancer Fund has rescheduled its Annual Golf Tournament that was to be held in June to Aug. 17. The tournament will have a noon shotgun start at North Country Golf Club. The cost is $70 for non-members and $55 for members and includes golf, cart, meal after play and refreshments on the course.

Team registration form and payment must be submitted by Aug. 13. Make checks payable to: North Country Cancer Fund. Mail Entries and check to: Steve LeFevre, 50 Akey Road, Morrisonville, NY 12962.

Ti medical clearance dates set

TICONDEROGA — Physical exams for all Ticonderoga athletes for the 2013-14 school year were completed in June. However, many of those exams are incomplete as the student failed to return a signed Health History form before the physical. No student will be cleared to participate in tryouts without a completed Health History form, Health Update form and physical exam. Athletes who did not have a physical exam this spring or who have any other questions should contact Mr. Sutphen at 585-7400 ext. 1159.

The Health History form and the Update form must be completed and turned in to the nurse for medical clearance at the dates and times specified below. The forms can be found on the Ticonderoga High School web page and are available in the main office at the High School. Athletes with questions about preseason practices should contact their head coach.

7 a.m.– JV & varsity football

7:30 a.m.– JV & varsity soccer

8 a.m.– Boys’ & girls’ cross country

The High School Nurse will also be available from 7 to 8 a.m. Aug. 19.

5 to 7 p.m. Aug. 21- Modified sports: Football, soccer, cross country

The school nurse will also be available from 9 to 10 a.m. Aug. 22 from at the Middle School Nurses Office.

Cook, Morrow top finishers at Race 4 Care

POTTERSVILLE — Joshua Cook of Putnam Station and Olivia Morrow of Saratoga Springs were the top male and female finishers, respectively, at the first-annual Race 4 Care 5K held June 20. Thirty-six runners and walkers participated in the 3.1-mile race at Word of Life Bible Institute. Astri Roemischer of Westport received the Top Money Raised award for raising $305.

The event was put on by High Peaks Hospice & Palliative Care, and total gross money raised was $1,701.

Gondek named NCAA D-III National Chairman

Fredonia State men’s soccer coach since 2000, P.J. Gondek, a graduate of Chazy Central Rural School, has been named chairman of the committee responsible for ranking and selecting the field for this year’s 2013 NCAA Division III men’s soccer national championship tournament. A member of the selection committee since 2010 (East regional advisory committee since 2008), Gondek will serve a one-year term and will oversee the selection/ranking of the championship field. He will also serve as tournament site chairman for two weeks and games committee chair for the semifinals and championship games in San Antonio, Texas Dec. 6 and 7.

Big Boy’s team wins AuSable softball tourney

AUSABLE FORKS — The Big Boy’s team from Plattsburgh took first place in the AuSable Forks Fire Department’s 23rd Softball Tournament. Doug’s, also from Plattsburgh, finished second in the 15-team tournament, and Tupper Lake Supply placed third.
