---- — LAKE PLACID — The Post 326 Adirondacks hadn’t been on the field in 10 days and it showed in the first game of a doubleheader Sunday.
The Adirondacks allowed 11 walks and only managed three hits in a 13-0 loss to the Vermont Jays.
Game two, however, Post 326 improved and took a 5-0 lead after 2½ innings, but the Jays rallied for six runs over the next four innings to take a 6-5 victory.
“We played much better in the second game,” Adirondacks coach Rik Cassidy said. “We played well defensively in both … we didn’t make any errors.”
Alex Chapman held Post 326 to three hits in a strong pitching performance for Vermont in the first game.
Jake Gaboriault and Kyle Combs led the way offensively with a pair of hits that included a double. Asa Hoover added two hits, while Chapman and Jake Benson each had a double.
Ryan Trudeau went 2-for-2 to pace Post 326 with Drew Sturgeon finishing with a hit.
Trudeau was strong on the mound in the second game for the Adirondacks, pitching a complete game, but fell short of the victory.
Post 326’s bats came alive in the second game as well, belting out seven hits. Sturgeon and Luke Carpenter led the way with doubles, while Kolby Pertak, Trudeau, Chris Clarke, Ryan Damp and Chris Williams each had a hit.
Jesse Larose, the third pitcher of the day for Vermont, captured the victory.
Benson went 2-for-3 to lead the way for the Jays.
“Trudeau pitched a great game,” Cassidy said. “We had our chances … it was a real good ball game.
“We are starting to hit the ball of late. It has been an adjustment with wood bats. Very rarely do you see teams hit in the double digits, especially for the younger kids.”
The Adirondacks are back at it Friday with a 6 p.m. contest at Lefty Wilson in the District IV Championships against the Clinton County Junior Mariners.
