Valcour Sailing Club opens 2013 season

PLATTSBURGH — The Valcour Sailing Club launched its 2013 season Saturday with the annual Commodore Cup Race in Cumberland Bay.

Canon honors goes to the first boat to cross the finish line, which was Jean Pierre Turgeon’s Galilee completing the 10-mile course in 1:43:58.

When the handicaps are applied, which take into account the various speed differentials between the sailboats, the corrected finish times were in descending order:

Mark Stata, helming Witchcraft course time: 1:56:34 corrected to 1:58:41 for first place.

Jean Pierre Turgeon’s Galilee, course time 1:43:58 corrected to 1:59:29 for second place.

Don Duley’s Realescape, course time 1:58:47 corrected to 2:04:56 for third place.

Valcour Sailing Club hosts One Design Soling Racing every Tuesday evening, PHRF Spinnaker and JAM racing every Thursday evening, and Spinnaker and Jam Racing most Saturdays. Visit www.Valcoursailingclub.org for more information on sailboat racing on Cumberland Bay.
