Final boat safety class offered June 1
PLATTSBURGH — The last boating safety class of the season will be offered on Saturday June 1 at the South Plattsburgh Fire Dept. station # 1, next door to NYSEG on Route 22.
This will be an all day eight-hour class with 30 minutes off for lunch. Class time will be from 9 a.m. until 5:30 p.m.
Called “About Boating Safely”, the course is offered by Coast Guard Auxiliary Flotilla 15-8 of Plattsburgh.
Now is the perfect time to get ready for this year’s season of boating on Lake Champlain,” said Robert Shivokevich, Public Education officer for the Flotilla. “There are a lot of safety tips boaters should know to make their trip on Lake Champlain waters safer and more enjoyable.”
Taking an “About Boating Safely” classroom course or one of the online boat safety courses adopted by the U.S. Coast Guard Auxiliary will satisfy New York state requirements for mandatory boater education.
About Boating Safely includes a wide variety of information, including general information about boats and maintenance, information on preparing for safe and enjoyable outings, navigation rules, regulations and aids to navigation, guidelines for operating your boat or PWC safely, what to do in case of boating emergencies, and regulations you must follow for New York and Vermont waters.
This information applies to all recreational watercraft, powerboats, PWCs or jet skis, sailboats, rowboats and kayaks.
This course satisfies the requirements for PWC operation and has been approved by the National Association of Boating Law Administrators (NASBLA).
There is a charge of $30 for the study book and other course materials. For more information and to register, contact Robert Shivokevich at 493-7251 or firstname.lastname@example.org
