ROME — Jonathan Bowman came through in a big way last weekend to win the New York State Pepsi Bowling Championship, Boys’ U20 Division, at King Pin Lanes in Rome.
The 16-year-old Peru bowler will now represent New York in July in the NorthPoint Junior Gold Championships in Detroit. He also won a $1,000 scholarship for capturing the U20 (Boys ages 16-20) tournament. The money is held in account by the United States Bowling Congress.
Bowman put together games of 258, 255, 256, 258, 236 and 247 for a 1,510 total, giving him a 120-pin lead after six games.
However, Bowman still needed to defeat Kevin Bienko of Kenmore in the stepladder finals. He strung together six strikes in a row, needing the first strike in the 10th frame to beat Bienko 233-214.
