CVBL playoffs start today with 2 games

PLATTSBURGH — The defending Champlain Valley Baseball League playoff champion Lyon Mountain Miners are sitting in a good position.

The Miners enter this year’s playoffs on a roll after capturing the regular season title with an 11-2, four games in the loss column ahead of their nearest pursuers.

Lyon Mountain, however, will have to wait a week to begin defending its championship. The top-seeded Miners and second-place Meron’s Expos (8-6) have byes in the opening round of the playoffs.

On tap today are the one-game elimination quarterfinals, with both games scheduled to be played at South Acres Field.

The 11 a.m. contest has the fourth-seeded Fourth Ward A’s (7-8) versus the fifth-seeded Peabody’s Padres (5-9) at 11 a.m., followed by the third-seeded Fourth Ward Cardinals (8-7) against the sixth-seeded Fourth Ward Timberjaxx (4-10) at 3 p.m.
