10 YEARS AGO (2004)

Lt. Meghan Welch  of West Chazy is named to the All-Navy Women’s Triathlon Team.

Peru’s Josh McDougal, 19, finishes 12th in the 5,000 meters at the IAAF World Junior Track & Field Championships in Italy. He sets a New York State record with a time of 14:07.55.

Beekmantown’s Josh Howard, 152 pounds, finishes 8th out of 41 competitors to earn All-America honors at the National Open Wrestling Championships.

John William Hickey  of AuSable Forks places third in the 9-10 age group at the Northeast Regional Championships in the Golf Channel’s Drive, Chip and Putt Junior Challenge.

Matt McCormick’s  22-yard TD toss to  Steve Holdridge  accounts for the lone East touchdown in a 26-7 loss to the West in the first North Country Rotary All-Star Football Classic.

Peru’s Andrew McDougal (1,600 meters) and Plattsburgh’s  Amanda Maynard (800m) both record victories in the 13-14 age group at the Hershey Regional Track & Field Championships.

20 YEARS AGO (1994)

The CVAC tennis all-stars are a family affair with Brian and Christine Murphy of Peru joining  Bob, Tara and Erica Butler of Saranac on the first team.

Bruce Fry fires a 34-31—65 to set a course record at Adirondack Golf and Country Club.

Rob Bedard’s 2-run homer and Chris Breuder’s  pitching lead D.A.R.E./ McSweeney’s to an 8-4 upset of Post 20.

The Capitaland Thunder ruin the Plattsburgh North Stars’ season opener with a 29-15 victory at Bleecker Stadium in Albany. Eric Brumskill runs for one Stars’ score while Randy Brown  passes to Ernie Follmer for the other TD.

25 YEARS AGO (1989)

Matt Mero and Rian McManus win Eastern Tennis Association Northern District age groups.

Ian Breen beats Rusty Bigelow on the second hole of sudden death to win the 9th Annual Bill McBride Junior Golf Classic. Craig Joyce (17-18),  Scott Cutaiar (15-16) and Matt Fredette (12-14) win net honors while Brian Norcross (15-16) and Matt Juneau (12-14) post low gross scores.
