Chapot continues winning streak at horse show

LAKE PLACID (AP) — Laura Chapot of Neshanic Station, N.J., continued her winning streak at the 2014 I Love New York Horse Show, winning both featured classes for the second consecutive day. Chapot claimed the $5,000 High Peaks Resort 1.40m Speed Stake and the $1,500 WPTZ News Channel 5 1.35m Speed Class Thursday.

Chapot topped a field of 32 horses and won the one-round 1.40m Speed Stake by finishing fault-free in the fastest time of 57.457 seconds on Zealous. She also placed third in the class on Castellana, eighth on Bradberry and tenth on Shooting Star. Victoria Colvin finished second with a fault-free ride in 5 8.629 seconds on Don Juan.

In the 1.35m Class, Chapot topped a field of 29 horses by riding Umberto to the fastest clean round, finishing in a time of 55.039 seconds. Linda Langmeier placed second with a clean round in 56.199 seconds on Rafino.

The I Love New York Horse Show runs through Sunday at the North Elba Show Grounds and will be followed by the inaugural Adirondack Horse Show July 9 to 13.

Highlighting this week are the $15,000 USHJA International Hunter Derby on Saturday and the $75,000 I Love New York Grand Prix on Sunday.

Also on Sunday, the horse show hosts its 22nd Annual Doggie Costume Contest. All people with leashed dogs in costume will be admitted to the horse show free of charge. Contestants will take center stage at noon in a special ring set up near the horse show’s Richard M. Feldman Grand Prix Field. Categories include Best in Show, first, second and third place and two Honorable Mentions. There is no entry fee, and all contestants receive a special bag of doggie treats.
