baseball: Matt Hart scores game-winning run in the eighth.
PLATTSBURGH — Kalob Drollette went the distance for the pitching victory and Frank Brogna’s run-scoring single in the eighth inning gave the Peabody’s Padres a 3-2 win over the Adams Glass Dodgers in a highly-competitive Champlain Valley Baseball League game Wednesday night at Lefty Wilson Field.
Drollette struck out nine, allowed nine hits and walked three. Adams Glass starter Kevin Sousa and reliever Ethan King, who took over in the seventh and was the losing pitcher, combined for eight strikeouts and surrendered seven hits.
Matt Hart finished with two singles and a double to lead the Padres (9-4), while Brogna added two singles.
Marcus Lefebvre paced the Dodgers (7-8) with a double and two singles. Josh Douglas followed with two singles.
Peabody’s grabbed a 1-0 lead in the second inning when Donny Coolidge’s sacrifice fly drove in Hart.
But Adams Glass came back with two in the bottom of the third to take a 2-1 advantage. Lefebvre doubled in one run and Kyle McCarthy singled in another.
It stayed that way until the sixth when the Padres drew even when Matt Ormsby singled in Coolidge.
Hart, who had a big night at the plate, scored the game-winning run in the eighth on the Brogna hit.
