Dunn wins Modified race at MIR

AKWESASNE — The 358 Modifieds took center stage for their 25-lap feature event Friday at Mohawk International Raceway. Billy Dunn grabbed the lead on a restart and grabbed his first win of the season, followed by Chris Raabe and Carey Terrance.

In Sportsman action, Corey Wheeler proved he means business in 2014 as he claimed his second win in a row. Mike Maresca had his best finish of the year in second, and Louie Jackson Jr. was third.

The TUSA Mod Lite Series was on hand for a special 20-lap event, and Jim Bogett pulled away off turn 4 in the final lap to secure the big win over Paul Klager. In the 10-lap Bandit feature, Randy Whiting dominated the final 5 laps to score his second win of the year. Darryl Mitchell placed second.

Lake Placid soccer tournament July 12

LAKE PLACID — The Adirondack Freeze F.C., a new soccer club in the tri-lakes region, is organizing a one-day tournament for youth and adult teams.

Stuart Hemsley, one of the Adirondack Freeze co-founders said, “We are inviting soccer enthusiasts wanting to compete in a seven-on-seven men’s open or a co-ed seven-on-seven tournament. Each team will have six field players and a goalkeeper. There will be a three games guarantee, free substitution and people will be able to stay over and watch the FIFA World Cup final July 13.”

The youth division of the Lake Placid soccer weekend will also take place July 12. The club is inviting teams in the U-10, U-12 and U-13 age categories.

This will mark the first competitive soccer experience for the new local Adirondack Freeze F.C. U-13 team.
