Clinton softball falls twice to Delhi

PLATTSBURGH — The second time out for Clinton Community College softball was much better than the first.

The results, however, were the same.

The Cougars fell to 0-4 on the season with losses of 14-7 and 12-2 to Delhi Saturday in their home opener.

Clinton fell behind 4-1 in the fourth inning of the first game, but was able to score three runs in the bottom of the fourth to tie the game.

The fifth inning, though, the Broncos exploded for seven runs and the rest of the day got progressively worse for the Cougars.

“I think once we had that inning it was all downhill from there, unfortunately,” Clinton coach Sami Stoughton said. “We started off very well, but we got down on ourselves after a few errors and it went on from there.”

Alisha Ducatte had a superb game in game one with three hits, including a home run and a double. Emily Cutting chipped in with a pair of hits.

“(Alisha) had nice plays for us (Saturday),” Stoughton said. “She played a strong all-around game and her head was really in it.

“We hit the ball a lot better (Saturday).”

Breanne Hotaling led the way for Delhi with a home run and a double. Kayla Edge-Santos and Mariah Coville both finished with two hits.

Alexandria Forkey struck out five on her way to the victory. Christine Darrah suffered the loss for the Cougars.

In game two, the Broncos jumped on Clinton early with six runs in the second and five more in the third.

Hotaling was again hot from the plate with two hits, including a double. Forkey delivered a double.

Alyssa Rabideau and Meg Barber each had a double to lead the Cougars. Cutting and Alyssa Sullivan each finished with a single.

Erica McNulty picked up the win on the mound for Delhi with Andrea Le Vien suffering the loss.

Clinton will look for the elusive first victory when it takes on Herkimer in a doubleheader starting at 2 p.m. today.
