---- — PLATTSBURGH — Luis Pepen-Matos came within a handful of outs of pitching a no-hitter Monday as Adams Glass swept a pair of games against the Plattsburgh Elks.
Pepen-Matos led the charge on the mound in the first game, a 4-0 victory, while Kevin Sousa was strong on the rubber in the second game, a 6-1 win.
Pepen-Matos finished with 12 strikeouts and no walks in the complete-game victory.
Nick Demarais belted out a pair of doubles for Adams Glass (16-6-1), while Jacob Kennedy finished with two hits and two RBI. Kyle McCarthy and Alex Lamberton each finished with a hit.
Adam Tedford broke up Pepen-Matos’ no-hit bid with a single in the sixth inning for Plattsburgh.
Greg Manney, who relieved starter Kristian Sherman in the fourth inning, suffered the loss for the Elks.
Sousa allowed four hits in the second game for Adams Glass, but only allowed a single run. He finished with nine strikeouts to capture the victory.
Kyle Sprague and Michael Danis each had RBI singles to lead the way for Adams Glass. McCarthy and Lamberton finished with an RBI apiece, while Kennedy and Alden Kerr each had a hit.
Plattsburgh was much better from the plate in the second game, paced by Nate Emery’s two hits, including a double. Austin Medeiros and Kyle Erickson each added a double.
Jonas Miller took the loss for the Elks.
“Our pitching was fantastic and our defense made plays when we needed them,” Adams Glass coach John Demarais said. “Mike Danis was big under pressure with two strikes when he laid down a great bunt. He showed a lot of guts.
“We continue to have really good hitting.”
Adams Glass travels to Franklin County today for a 6 p.m. contest.
