---- — Kids rides and spectator races at Airborne

PLATTSBURGH — There’s something for everyone at Airborne Speedway tonight, including the chance to try your hand at navigating the half-mile in your own vehicle.

Agency Insurance Night offers Kids Race Car Rides before weekly division qualifying action begins at 6 p.m. There will also be a Classic Cruisers Car Show and 1-on-1 spectator elimination races — single-lap races with the winner advancing to the next round. There is a $50 bonus posted for the Most Unusual Entry. Entrants must wear a helmet and be driving a registered car or truck — no motorcycles.

The DIRTcar Modifieds will compete in the Charlie Trombley Memorial. Todd Stone of Middlebury, Vt. is the Modified points leader. The defending track champion leads 18-year-old Jessey Mueller of Olmstedville. Leon Gonyo of Chazy holds down third place in the standings, followed by Kris Vernold and Patrick Dupree.

Also in action tonight are the Adirondack Water Limited Late Models, Key RD Trailer Sales Renegades and the Busch Mini Modifieds. Post time is 6 p.m. Admission is $12 for adults; kids 12 and under admitted free.


Willie King Junior Golf Camp has openings

PERU — There are still openings remaining for the 2013 Willie King Junior Golf Camp, which will be held next Monday through Friday from 9 a.m. to 12:15 p.m. daily at Adirondack Golf & Country Club. The camp is for boys and girls ages five to 13. For more information, call King at 561-2337.


Police Officers’ Golf Tourney accepting applications

PLATTSBURGH — The Plattsburgh Police Officers’/McCadams Distributing 31st Annual Golf Tournament is currently accepting entries for the tournament.

The tournament will be held on Aug. 8 at 10:30 a.m. at the North Country Golf Club. This is a play-your-own-ball tournament with gross and net prizes awarded.

Also included is lunch, beverages and a pig roast.

Rally for Chateaugay Lake set for Aug. 17

CHATEAUGAY LAKE — The second-annual Rally for the Lake 5K run and one-mile fun walk will be held Saturday, Aug. 17, followed by a cookout on the grounds of Camp Jeanne d’Arc. Event-day registration opens at 8:30 a.m., with a 9:30 a.m. start for the run and 9:35 a.m. start for the walk. The route extends along the southwestern shore of the Chateaugay Lake Narrows.

A post-run cookout from 10:30 a.m. to 12:30 p.m. is included in the entry fee of $20 for adults, $15 for youths ages 13 to 18, and $5 for children ages five up to 13. Fees go up $5 after Aug. 14. Guests are welcome to attend only the post-run cookout, with the cost being $10 for those ages 13 and over, $5 for children ages five to 13, and free for children under five.

Men’s, women’s senior golf championships Aug. 8 in Massena

MASSENA — The Northern New York Men’s and Women’s Senior Golf Championships will be held on Tuesday, Aug. 8, at the Massena Country Club. Community Bank, N.A. will sponsor the event. The tournament will have over $3,500 in prizes to be awarded to the net, gross and special prize winners. Last year, over 170 golfers took part.

The tournament will be divided into six flights. The flights include ages 50 to 54, 55 to 59, 60 to 64, 65 to 69, and 75 and older. Prizes will be awarded to both net and gross winners.

There will be a shotgun start at 12:30 p.m., with a dinner and awards ceremony at approximately 5:30 p.m. The entry fee, which includes a cart, is $47 for Massena Country Club members and $65 for non-members. For walkers, the entry fee is $35 for members and $50 for non-members. For more information, contact the Massena Country Club Pro Shop at 315-769-2293. The deadline for entries is Monday, Aug. 5.


ADGA hosts Disc Golf Tournament

CADYVILLE — The Adirondack Disc Golf Association is hosting the Chains for Charity II Disc Golf Tournament July 20 at the Cadyville Disc Golf Course on Goddeau Road.

The C-tier PDGA sanctioned singles disc golf tournament will support Hannah’s Hope Fund.

Check-in begins at 8 a.m. July 20, with Round 1 of the tournament starting at 9:15 a.m. There are men and women categories for recreational ($25 entry fee), intermediate ($30 entry fee), advanced ($35 entry fee) and open ($40 entry fee) divisions.

Also, there are junior-boy and junior-girl ($20 entry fee) divisions.

Bluff Point Junior Golf Program holds event

PLATTSBURGH — The Bluff Point Junior Golf Program held its annual scramble/pizza party on Tuesday, July 9.

Finishing in first place was the team of Gavin Plimpton, Alex Faruqi and Jeremy Davies. Second place went to Jordan Guay, Jake Messner and Ryan Beebie and third to Nick Dodd, Alec Odnoha, Matt Svarplaitis and Jacob Bechard.

The next event for the program is the member/guest tournament on July 23, followed by the club championships the next week.


Besaw records first hole-in-one

PORT KENT — Saranac’s Dave Besaw recorded the first hole-in-one of his golfing career when he aced the par-three, 10th hole at Harmony Golf Club on Sunday, May 5. Besaw used a gap wedge.

PERU — The Champlain Chapter of Certified Football Officials (CCFOA) is seeking new candidates. The association covers all Section VII football programs. You will receive full training from the association so you do not need to have experience as an official to become a member.
