Fred LaGoy picks up his first career victory after surviving a finish-line collision with Bucko Branham in Late-Model racing action at Airborne Speedway.

Plattsburgh’s Michael White and Christine Lallier of Hemmingford, Que. win the 16th YMCA Y-Tri. Ali Morrow, Chris LaRosa and Zach Bowen win the team competition.

Chris Washburn and Donny Coolidge belt grand slams as the Clinton County Mariners go on to win the Mainely Lobster & SeaFood American Legion baseball tournament.

Amy Murphy and Elyse LaFountain each score twice to lead Lady Giroux’s to a 6-2 triumph over Elm Tree Inn in a battle of unbeatens in North Country Women’s Soccer League play.

Colby Tyrell of Fat Freddie’s pitches a no-hitter in a 12-0 victory over Saranac Lake in Adirondack Senior Babe Ruth baseball.

Tom Neale tosses a no-hitter as the Plattsburgh Cardinals defeat Hi-Falls/All-Star Sports 6-0 in CVBL action.

20 YEARS AGO (1993)

Kyle Burdo bangs out 2 hits and Scott Moody records the win in relief as the CVBL All-Stars down the Northern Valley Baseball League All-Stars 12-8. Marc Duncan and Todd Kirkey each collect 2 hits for the NVBL while Devin Bodette belts a home run.

Tom Raville follows up his round of 72 with a 4-under 68 to easily win The Michelob at Bluff Point.

Former Seton Catholic standout Scott Campbell, who is playing junior hockey with the Niagara Scenics, is selected to play in the U.S. Olympic Festival in San Antonio.

Scott LaMare picks up a save and a win to help Post 20 wrap up the Glens Falls American Legion tournament title. He helps his cause with 3 hits and 3 RBI in the final. Craig Burdo chips in with 2 hits in the first game Sunday.

25 YEARS AGO (1988)

Mike Schoot belts 2 homers and drives in 9 runs to power the Midas Mudhens to a rout of the Plattsburgh Raiders in CVBL play.

Jason Miller clubs 2 homers and knocks in 7 runs as Post 20 pounds St. Albans, Vt. in American Legion junior baseball.

Keith Mason scores 4 goals and Steve Payant, 3, to lead Chazy-Harvey’s to an 8-5 triumph over Plattsburgh Air Force Base in North Country Soccer League action.

30 YEARS AGO (1983)

Tim Pratt pitches a one-hitter while Arnie Miller and Kevin Curry deliver RBI singles as the Altona Blues edge previously unbeaten AuSable Forks 2-1 in CVBL play.

Rick Samuels, former Saranac Lake standout, is named Rookie of the Year for the Hobart College baseball team after hitting .310 his freshman season.

Plattsburgh’s Joyce Black wins her age division (40-49) of the national Pepsi Challenge 10,000-meter run for the second time in three years.

Tim Doyle of Saranac Lake edges Chuck Kitchen of Long Lake to win the one-man guideboat race in the Annual Willard Hanmer Boat Races on Lake Flower.

Don Bainbridge shoots a 135 for 36 holes to edge Bob Goodspeed by one stroke in the Michelob Classic at Bluff Point.

Willsboro’s Rick Strong takes the Demolition Derby at the Clinton County Fairgrounds. Francis Jarvis of Plattsburgh earns Best-of-Show honors.

40 YEARS AGO (1973)

David Buran, 12, of Plattsburgh edges Ricky Pierce of Moira to win the Plattsburgh Soap Box Derby. Buran beats Susan Ryan of AuSable Forks in the B final to reach the championship race.

Doug Woods of Crown Point and Ticonderoga’s Frank Hughes hurl complete-game victories as Westport sweeps Hudson Falls in American Legion junior baseball. Fred Hooper of Elizabethtown cracks a two-run homer in the opener and adds a three-run double in the second game.

Hal Wolcoff, in his Pearson 26, wins the Valcour Sailing Club’s annual Skippers’ Race. Bill Rowe comes in second with Peter Hornby, third.

50 YEARS AGO (1963)

Wayne Frenyea fires a no-hitter as Schuyler Falls beats Churubusco 14-0 in County Babe Ruth League baseball.

Lou Coty strikes out 16 while Elmer Duprey and Everett Ezero each contribute a double and a single in Peru’s 13-3 thumping of Bloomingdale in Adirondack League baseball.

Mike Bingel bangs out 4 extra-base hits and Benny Siskavich chips in with 4 hits as Lyon Mountain whips Redford 14-3 in County Little League action.

60 YEARS AGO (1953)

Tech-Sgt. Lester (Pesty) Fifield, a 3-sport standout at Plattsburgh High, is assigned to the Amarillo (Tex.) Air Force Base where he plays second for the base softball team.

Gerald Pelky pitches a 2-hitter and helps his cause with a double as Champlain clubs Chazy 10-3 in junior baseball. Ace Lawyer takes the setback.

Cliff Kerr of Keeseville beats Joe Dubay in the final of the AuSable Forks Soap Box Derby.

Albert (Bob) Collins of William St., Plattsburgh, lands a 4-pound, 12.75 ounce brown trout while fishing True Brook. It measures 23.5 inches with a 5-inch girth.

70 YEARS AGO (1943)

Leo Bouyea and LaRose rap consecutive home runs to lift Morrisonville to a 5-4 win over St. John’s in softball.

Mr. Stillman and Mrs. Stillman finish 1-2 in a flag tournament at Bluff Point Golf Course. Dr. Ginsberg is third, followed by Mr. Weisenberger. George Tribble wins the blind bogey, followed by Dennis Bird and Mr. Prixley.
