PLATTSBURGH — The Saratoga Junior Stampede broke a 2-all tie with a run in the sixth and added another in the seventh for a 4-2 victory over the Clinton County Junior Mariners on Saturday at Lefty Wilson Field.
The second game of the doubleheader was rained out.
Codie Brown struck out four and allowed three hits in going the distance for the pitching win. Brandon Buksa and Gerrit Rietsema combined to surrender five hits on the mound for the Mariners (9-2).
Shawn Courson and Blake Altizer rapped RBI singles in the bottom of the fourth inning to pull Clinton County into a 2-all tie.
“We had a 20-minute rain delay in the fifth inning,” said Mariners assistant coach Bill Hunt. “When we started up again, the field was sloppy and they were able to play some small ball.”
Courson, Altizer and Buksa accounted for the lone hits for Clinton County.
“We lacked a little intensity for whatever reason (Saturday),” said Hunt. “Maybe the weather had something to do with it, but our bats were quiet.
“We weren’t able to get hits early in innings and, defensively, we made some key errors that cost us.”
The Mariners will look to get back on the winning trail when they host the Colchester Junior Cannons at 5:30 p.m. on Wednesday at South Acres Field.
