PLATTSBURGH — Frank Brogna and Kalob Drollette combined on a two-hitter on Wednesday as the Peabody’s Padres edged out a 1-0 victory over the Fourth Ward A’s in a Champlain Valley Baseball League make-up game at Lefty Wilson Field.
Brogna, who picked up the win, pitched four innings. He allowed two hits, walked three and struck out seven. Drollette didn’t allow a hit over the final three innings for the save as he fanned four.
The two needed to be on their game as losing pitcher Anthony Porcelli surrendered five hits and struck out six in going the distance.
The game’s only run was scored in the first inning when Shane Perrotte singled, went to second on Matt Ormsby’s sacrifice bunt, third on a wild pitch and scored on Matt Hart’s two-out single.
Perrotte led the Padres (4-5) with two singles. Ormsby added a double, while Chris Markwica and Hart had singles. David Latulipe and Pat Shaughnessy rapped singles for the lone hits for the A’s.
The two teams will play a second make-up game next Wednesday at a site and time yet to be determined.
