Shaughnessy commits to Clinton

PLATTSBURGH — The Clinton Community College Athletic Department announced Tuesday that Jesse Shaughnessy, a senior at Schroon Lake Central School, has decided to attend Clinton Community College in the fall.

While attending Clinton, Shaughnessy will play basketball for coach Kevin Daugherty’s Cougars. Shaughnessy was named the Mountain and Valley Athletic Conference’s Most Valuable Player two of the past three years.

This past season, he led Schroon Lake to the MVAC regular-season championship, was named Third-Team All-State for Class D schools and finished his career having scored more than 1,000 points.

“I think Clinton will be a good starting point for me academically and athletically,” Shaughnessy said. “I have a lot of friends in the Plattsburgh area, and I really like the way coach Daugherty runs his program.”

Coach Daugherty is looking forward to coaching Shaughnessy.

“I was impressed with his strength and versatility,” Daugherty said. “He can bring the ball up court if needed, and he can get into the paint, finish and get to the foul line. I also thought he did a great job with his leadership on a very young team.”
