Clinton takes down rival North Country

---- — PLATTSBURGH — No matter the rosters whenever Clinton Community College and North Country Community College get together its going to be a battle.

This round went to the Cougars.

Kyree Hull led a balanced scoring attack for Clinton with 24 points, 11 rebounds and four steals in the Cougars’ 82-63 victory over the Saints in men’s college basketball Wednesday.

Bayron Carter added 22 points, while Jamie Davison finished with 12 points, five assists and four steals. Mykelle Krecko tossed in 13 points, pulled down 14 rebounds and blocked four shots.

“Our guard play was outstanding,” Clinton coach Kevin Daugherty said. “Carter, Davison and Hull combined for 58 points, and Hull and Davison each had four steals.”

The Cougars took a 40-31 lead at the half.

“The game was closer than the final score indicates,” Daugherty said. “Our biggest lead in the first half was no more than 10. Every time we looked like we were going to make a run, North Country would make some threes.

“Another good 3-point shooting team for (North Country coach) Chad (LaDue).”

Clinton (2-0) made some adjustments defensively in the second half to take away the Saints’ 3-point shooting. North Country connected on 11 for the game.

“We did a real good job getting out on shooters in the second half,” Daugherty said. “We changed our D in the half court a lot to keep them off balance … they were shooting so well from three.

“Our perimeter guys worked very hard. (North Country) pressured us most of the second half. We worked hard getting the ball down floor and did a pretty good job of it.”

Thomas Barnes led the charge for the Saints with 13 points. Nikola Cvetanovic chipped in with 10 points, while Michael Boyea added nine.

“Chad has a good, hard working team,” Daugherty said. “They have a lot of new guys, but they will get it going. They shoot the ball well and play extremely hard.”

Clinton will host Herkimer Sunday for a noon tipoff. North Country travels to Mohawk Valley Community College Saturday at 3 p.m.
