Section VII’s Class C soccer champions head in opposite directions for the first round of NYSPHSAA play. The Lake Placid boys take on Section II champion Lake George and its potent offense this afternoon in Schuyerville. Meanwhile, the Northern Adirondack girls venture to Canton to face Section X’s Brushton-Moira.

The Warriors’ leading scorer has more goals this season than the entire Lake Placid team.
The high-scoring Warriors are led by junior Craig Keenan, who has tallied 28 goals and seven assists. Ian Quillinan has set up 16 goals and scored six of his own. Other players with double-digit point totals include John Rubado (nine goals, five assists) and Luke Vanderminden (five goals, seven assists).
In four sectional games, Lake George outscored its opponents 12-2. But the Warriors’ most recent game was a low-scoring contest. They came back from an early deficit to defeat Maple Hill 2-1 in the Section II final. Keenan had the game-winner in that one.
The Blue Bombers used tight defense to blank Northern Adirondack 2-0 in the Section VII title game. In fact, they’ve been a strong defensive team all season. They’ve given up just 11 goals in 14 games and surrendered more than one in just two games.
Goalkeeper Chris Kordziel has seven shutouts this season.
Nzoni Thompson has tallied nine of Lake Placid’s 24 goals, and the junior forward has also earned four assists. Stuart Baird is the other main offensive threat; he has five goals and three assists.
Lake Placid has not lost a game since Sept. 30, going 5-0-1 since then.
Northern Adirondack (13-3-2) vs. Brushton-Moira (10-3-4)SUNY Canton, 5 p.m.
The Bobcats aren’t too concerned with what kind of team Brushton-Moira is or what style it plays. They’re focused on their own game and trying to keep doing what got them into regional play.
