Bulldogs fall in soccer semifinals

POTSDAM — The Chateaugay boys’ soccer team controlled play and outshot Harrisville in Tuesday’s Section X Class D semifinal, but the Bulldogs couldn’t overcome an early goal by the Pirates.

Tim Fowler tallied 2:36 into the game, and the goal held up for a 1-0 victory over No. 3 seed Chateaugay at Potsdam High School.

“He squeezed through our defense, caught us off guard there. We had kind of a slow start,” Chateaugay coach Bob Ouimet said. “He got an edge, and we were chasing him down. He put a nice shot in the left corner, and Josh (Trombley) couldn’t get a hand on it.”

Jared Dreythaler assisted on the goal, and Zane Mono made eight saves to earn the shutout for No. 2 seed Harrisville.

The Bulldogs held a 14-8 advantage in shots.

“We did a great job passing and controlling play,” Ouimet said. “We had a couple of good chances at the end — had a heck of a flurry. We just couldn’t get one through.

“Harrisville was undefeated in the league, and we gave them a game.”

Trombley finished with four saves for Chateaugay (13-4-1).
