Holdridge shines at Franklin Pierce

RINDGE, N.H. — Peru graduate Michael Holdridge finished his sophomore season at Franklin Pierce University with seven touchdowns.

Holdridge scores the game-winning touchdown in overtime against the University of Pennsylvania, and tallied three touchdowns in their final game against Post University to grab the Talon Bowl trophy.

The Ravens finished 5-2 in their second season under another Peru graduate, coach Peter Ewald.

Balisy, Aveson grab ECAC West honors

CENTERVILLE, Mass. — Bridget Balisy and Sydney Aveson of the Plattsburgh State women’s hockey team have been named Eastern College Athletic Conference (ECAC) West Player and Goalie of the Week, respectively, for the week ending Nov. 3.

Balisy was named the Most Valuable Player at the Norwich East/West Classic with a four-point weekend. The sophomore forward opened the season with two goals and an assist in the Cardinals’ 6-0 win against Norwich on Saturday evening. The next day, Balisy added an assist on the lone goal in Plattsburgh State’s 1-0 victory over Manhattanville to lead the Cardinals to the Norwich East/West Classic Title.

Aveson earned a spot on the Norwich East/West Classic All-Tournament Team, posting a 2-0-0 record on the weekend with a pair of shutouts. On Saturday, Aveson turned away all 18 shots she faced in the 6-0 shutout against the Cadets. The West Covina, Calif. native followed that up with a 14-save performance in the 1-0 win against Manhattanville on Sunday.

The Cardinals open league play Tuesday night at Potsdam before making their home debut on Saturday in a non-conference matchup against Castleton at 3 p.m.

Curle to appear on Shamrock Sports Network

PLATTSBURGH — Plattsburgh State head men’s basketball coach Tom Curle is scheduled to appear on the Shamrock Sports Network’s Wise Guys Sports Talk Show on Sunday. The hour-long radio show will begin at 5 p.m. and will be broadcast from the Uno Chicago Grill in Plattsburgh.
