Driscoll, Ehmann lead Cardinals at SUNYAC championships

---- — ONEONTA — Senior Kelley Driscoll recorded a fifth-place finish in a time of 22:14.6 to lead the Plattsburgh State women’s cross country team to a seventh-place finish at the SUNYAC Cross Country Championships on Saturday morning at Fortin Park.

As a team, the Cardinals collected some 179 points, beating out Buffalo State, Oswego State and SUNY Potsdam. SUNY Geneseo ran away with the team title, amassing just 26 points and boasting five runners in the top ten.

The fifth-place finish for Driscoll was the highest the Geneva, N.Y., product has finished at the event through the course of her collegiate career. With her finish, Driscoll adds yet another All-SUNYAC First Team accolade to her large collection of distance running hardware.

Tailing Driscoll was Katie Ehmann, who carved out a spot for herself on the All-SUNYAC Second Team with a 13th-place finish in a time of 22:37.7. The Kingston, N.Y., product improved her finishing position by 18 spots when compared to her 31st-place finish at the event one year ago.

Placing third among the Plattsburgh State ranks was junior Amanda Joskow who navigated the six-kilometer course in a 68th-place time of 24:37.8. Freshman Lauren Perschetz (24:47.8) finished in 74th place during her first run in the SUNYAC Championships and her fellow freshman Morgan Deming was clocked in a 90th-place time of 25:40.3 to round out the Plattsburgh State scoring contingent.

Sophomore Megan Schweizer was the final Plattsburgh State finisher in the top 100, posting a 91st-place time of 25:43.2 along the course.

A trio of freshman in Tiffani Love (106th, 26:37.4), Kristin Schnalzer (108th, 26:45.6) and Brianna Bessette (110th, 26:56.7) were the next three finishers for the Cardinals. Bessette recorded a personal best time during the race.

Rounding out the group of Plattsburgh State competitors were sophomores Kelsey McNally (117th, 29:10.5), Hilary Crannage (119th, 29:50.6) and first-year cross country competitor Brittany Greene (122nd, 31:18.7).

On Saturday, Nov. 16, the Cardinals will make a return trip to Geneseo, N.Y., to compete in the NCAA Atlantic Regional Cross Country Championships. The meet is scheduled to begin at 11 a.m.

PSU men take eighth place at championships

ONEONTA — The Plattsburgh State men’s cross country squad ran to an eighth-place finish at the State University of New York Athletic Conference (SUNYAC) Cross Country Championships hosted by Oneonta State at Fortin Park on Saturday afternoon.

Freshman Ethan Vinson was the top finisher for the Cardinals, crossing the finish line of the eight-kilometer course in a 53rd-place time of 27:05.1. As a team, Plattsburgh State gathered up 229 points, besting Brockport and SUNY Potsdam during the championship race.

SUNY Cortland (20 points) edged out SUNY Geneseo (41 points) to earn the team title at the event. Six of the top seven finishers for the Red Dragons were in the top 10.

Not far behind Vinson was the sophomore duo of Zach Rose and Jason Flach. The tandem finished within three tenths of a second of each other with Rose (27:11.9) recording a 58th-place finish and Flach (27:12.2) checking in at 59th.

The fourth-best finisher boasted by the Cardinals was freshman Louis Castellani, who cut 30 seconds off of his previous personal best with a 73rd-place finish in 27:35.9.

Competing in just the second race of his inaugural collegiate campaign, Michael Larkin rounded out the Plattsburgh State scoring contingent by producing an 80th-place finish in 28:00.6. Larkin saw his 8K personal best time decrease by over one minute.

The final Cardinal student-athlete to post a top-100 finish, Brendan Connor was clocked in an 85th-place time of 28:15.1.

Joseph Nichols (102nd, 29:34.3), Christopher Scarallo (103rd, 29:38.0) and Joshua Herron (116th, 32:00.9) were the last three finishers for Plattsburgh State.
