Pumpkin Muffin 5K set for Saturday

PAUL SMITHS — The Paul Smith’s College Striders will host the 20th Annual Pumpkin Muffin 5 Kilometer (3.1 miles) Fun Run/Walk at 11 a.m. Saturday. The event will be used a fun tune-up for the USCAA nationals for the Paul Smith’s cross country teams. Many of the collegiate runners will take part in full costume.

The course will be on pavement and woodland trails. Approximately one mile of the course utilizes the hilly Visitor’s Interpretive Center’s Silviculture Trail. The start and finish is located on the campus roadway, near Essex Hall, while race registration will take place in the lobby of the Saunders Sports Complex.

The first 60 to register will receive a t-shirt. A half-gallon of maple syrup will be awarded to the man and woman who can guess closest to their actual finish time. Plaques will be awarded to the top three in numerous categories. Participants will be able to use the locker room and shower facilities afterwards.

North Bowl Singles Shootout on Nov. 3

PLATTSBURGH — North Bowl Lanes will be hosting a Singles Shootout Nov. 3, with qualifying shifts at noon and 2:15 p.m. Based on 50 entries, first place will be worth $300. The top 15 or one in five entries will cash.

Entry fee is $35, with re-entry at $30. Handicap is 80 percent of the difference in your average and 220, with a maximum of 32 pins per game. A bowler’s highest 2012-2013 average will be used, with a minimum of 21 games bowled.

Qualifying will consist of four games across eight lanes, moving one pair to the right after each game. The top 15 will qualify for match play, with the high qualifier receiving a first-round bye. Jackpot is $5, $1 for each game and $1 for series. Scratch scores will be used for jackpots. Brackets will also be available.

All bowlers must sign in 15 minutes prior to their shift or call and reserve a spot 30 minutes prior to the start of the shift. For more information, contact John Munson, Bob Munson or Bob Trombley at 561-1690.

Lucky Strike Lanes to host October Challenge on Sunday

MALONE — Lucky Strike Lanes will be hosting the October Challenge on Sunday at noon. Entry fee is $50. The format is a five-game qualifier and bowlers will be placed in age divisions — 39 and under, 40 to 59, 60 and over and ladies.

The top eight in each division will then bowl one game, the top 16 scores will advance to the single-game bracket elimination matches.

Basketball officials meeting Sunday

PLATTSBURGH — The Northern New York Girls Basketball Officials Association and Northeastern New York Basketball Officials Association IAABO 43 has scheduled its annual organizational meeting for 6 p.m. Sunday at Stafford Middle School. The meeting is mandatory for all members. New members are welcome.
