Crown Point, Keene move on in Class D playoffs

CROWN POINT — The Crown Point boys’ soccer team proved to be a sharing bunch in its Section VII Class D preliminary win over Johnsburg Tuesday.

Five players were credited with a goal or an assist in the Panthers’ 6-0 blanking of the Jaguars.

Judd DeBrobander registered two goals and two assists, while Joe Foote added two goals and an assist in the six-goal differential.

“Crown Point controlled the game from start-to-finish,” Panthers coach Randy Pertak said. “We were able to score very quickly in both halves. We passed the ball very well, and we controlled the game.”

Noah Macey opened the game’s scoring with just 1:26 gone in the first half on a one-time feed from Chance Potter.

DeBrobander helped Crown Point extended its differential to two goals 14:03 later. Foote was credited with the assist on the play.

The Panthers would maintain a 2-0 advantage at the halftime break.

DeBrobander, Erick DuShane and Foote each scored second-half goals. Three of the four tallies occurred with under 10 minutes to play in regulation.

“The boys really looked to setup each other well (Tuesday),” Pertak said. “I hope we can carry this momentum against Elizabethtown-Lewis Thursday. We did not play very well when we played them in a tournament earlier this season.”

Crown Point outshot the Jaguars in the match, 22-6.

Brendan Crowningshield registered one save in net for the win, while Mark Cleveland made nine saves in the losing effort for Johnsburg.

KEENE — Harry Joanette, Gabe Warner and Colton Venner each scored, while the Beavers were credited with an own goal in their preliminary win.
