SCHROON LAKE — Kyle McCarthy scored Clinton Community College’s first four goals Wednesday as the Cougars rolled to a 6-1 victory over Word of Life in men’s soccer.
McCarthy tallied three goals in the first half to give the Cougars a 3-1 lead. Luke Theis scored the Word of Life goal.
McCarthy, Kaleb Snide and Zach Brockway then all scored in the second half to help Clinton pull away. Brockway also had assists on two of McCarthy’s goals.
Adam Goldfarb made five saves in net for the Cougars, who held a 17-8 advantage in shots.
“We were pretty much able to dominate the game,” Clinton coach Gene Bushey said. “We played well defensively and we were able to spread the field well offensively. It was a good win for us heading into Monday’s game at North Country Community College.”
The Cougars close out their season in the 3:30 p.m. contest in Saranac Lake.

SARANAC LAKE — All season long, the Clinton Community College women’s soccer team has struggled to score goals.
The Cougars, however, scored one early Wednesday against North Country Community College.
But the Saints tallied two goals in the first three minutes of the second half and recorded a 2-1 victory in the Cougars’ final game of the season.
Kenna Agoney gave Clinton the lead off a rebound and scramble with 12:13 gone in the game.
It remained 1-0 the rest of the way.
But Chelsea Lafountain pulled North Country even with 46 seconds gone in the second stanza and Epril Nossent then scored the game-winning goal shortly after at the 2:16 mark.
