Peru knocks off Division I leader Saranac Lake in boys' NSL

PERU — Jacob Dick scored a pair of goals as Peru captured a big, 3-0, victory over Division I-leading Saranac Lake in boys’ Northern Soccer League Friday.

Ian Spear had the lone first-half goal of the game for the Indians. Jonathan Plessis-Belair provided the assist.

Dick tallied both of his goals in the second half. The first coming unassisted and just 57 seconds into the half, while Kainan Provost assisted on the game’s final goal.

“Dick and Spear did a great job of receiving passes from midfielders Provost and Plessis-Belair, and putting consistent pressure on the Saranac Lake defense,” Peru coach Matt Armstrong said.

“Isaac Nixon did a good job of slowing down Devin Cowan’s fast-break ability. Cowan is a dangerous player and we wanted to do our best to keep him in check.”

The Indians held a slight advantage in shots, 14-11.

Guy Loveless made six saves to capture the shutout in net. Oliver Holmes stopped six shots for the Red Storm.
